Spessi, Sigurþór Hallbjörnsson, studied photography in AKI – Akademie voor Beeldende Kunst – in the Netherlands.
He is a photographer and filmmaker, known as one of Iceland’s most important visual chroniclers. He was guest lecturer at the Icelandic Art Academy from 2000 to 2003 and has received six grants from the Iceland Ministry of Culture.
Since 1996 Spessi has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Iceland, Europe and in New York. His photographs are included in private and public collections in Iceland, including the Reykjavík Art Museum and the National Gallery of Iceland.
He is a founding member and first chairman of ICPA The Icelandic Contemporary Photography Association www.fisl.is
Spessi has done advertisement (print) and editorials, for among others; Big New York, New York Times, Politiken, Extrabladet and Information in Denmark, MINIInternational Germany, Forum AID and MCM Sweden.
